In the halls of Seaquam Secondary, there are many things to see. However, there is a tall, blonde eleventh grader that roams those halls. With one glance, many would immediately stereotype her, calling her “The Basic White Girl.” However, after my interview with her, many would find that she is far from basic. The first interesting thing about Emily is her hair. Whether it’s in a bun, or resting on her shoulders, her curly, golden locks always manage to look beautiful. In a bun, it rests on the top of her head in a perfect circle. In a ponytail, her locks follow each of her movements. When it is left untied, it frames her face perfectly, becoming a great accessory for every outfit. Another interesting thing about her is her interests. They range from sports, such as volleyball, to movies and books. Some of her favourite movies are Marvel movies, like Deadpool. She was a part of her high school’s volleyball team, and won championships. She also has a mild obsession with snail memes. She can often be found merging everyday verbs with the word snail. Confused? She would say you’re sonfused(snail confused). One thing that caught my attention about Emily is her group of friends. They are diverse in the sense that they are quite different from each other. They share interests, however, their favourites is what is different. In her group, there’s Alex Krups, the expert on all things Marvel and DC. He has a love of comics and movies like Star Wars, Avengers, and more. Because of him, Emily has began to take an interest in Star Wars, and is currently on Episode V. Next is Jaydyn Ballie, the expert on metal and memes. She and Emily bond over all kinds of memes. Next is a little brown girl named Sonia Singh, the expert on all kinds of books, mostly Young Adult though. She and Emily fangirl about 5 Seconds of Summer, and many novels that both of them love. Next, there is Jared Austin, the more athletic of the group. Both him and Emily share that love of sports. Finally, there is Ryann Chong, who has been Emily’s best friend for as long as she can remember. Ryann has always been there for her, giving Emily the advice, support, and love she need. All together, they bring out an interesting side of Emily. For Emily, having a diverse group of friends is what makes her unique, and far from basic.
